5 Health Benefits of Distilled Water

Distilled water is water that has been purified of contaminants through distillation. The process is relatively simple; water is brought to a boil and converted to steam. The steam flows through cooling tubes and condenses back into pure water. This is different than simple water filters because this process removes all potentially harmful organisms and chemicals. As you may imagine, there are benefits to drinking and using distilled water beyond superficial smell and taste improvements.

1. Removing Impurities

The most important health benefit of distilled water is the elimination of impurities that may be found in water. Drinking contaminated water is one of the fastest ways to spread disease, toxic metals, and industrial pollutants. By removing the contaminants from water through distillation, we can help alleviate the risk of future illnesses and toxic buildup that can pollute our bodies as well as the environment.

2. Elimination of Chemicals

The most common problem with drinking municipal water is that chlorine and fluoride are added as part of the water treatment process. The addition of fluoride is a major controversy and has been linked to many health problems. Before fluoride was deemed a “cavity fighter,” it was used as insecticide and rat poison. In fact, too much fluoride in your drinking water can actually cause tooth discoloration and breakdown of tooth enamel. Chlorine can be harmful to your body as well. Distilled water has filtered out these chemicals as well as others to make pure, clean water that is safe to drink.

3. No Additives

Many municipal water supplies also add calcium. While calcium is essential to maintaining good health, too much calcium can be a precursor to kidney stone formation. For some people, kidney stones can be a constant and painful problem and drinking distilled water can reduce the risk of developing more kidney stones as well as other illness.

4. No pharmaceuticals

According to an investigation by the Associated Press pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics, hormones, mood stabilizers, and other drugs, are in our drinking water supplies. According to the study, the drugs get into the drinking water supply through several routes: some people flush unneeded medication down toilets; other medicine gets into the water supply after people take medication, absorb some, and pass the rest out in urine or feces. Some pharmaceuticals remain even after waste-water treatments and cleansing by water treatment plants, the investigation showed. This creates a dangerous mixture of unwanted chemicals in our bodies, and even in small amounts these drugs can cause subtle effects or even major damage over time.

5. Loss of Minerals

Many people have heard distilled water is great for removing impurities but it also removes “beneficial minerals”. However, that statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. According to Dr. Allen Banik; “Distilled water is the greatest solvent on earth. It is the only water that can be taken into the body without damage to the tissues. What we as scientists and the public have never realized is that minerals collected in the body from water are all inorganic minerals, which cannot be assimilated (digested) by the body. The only minerals that the body can utilize are organic minerals (from fruits and vegetables). All other types of minerals are foreign substances to the body and must be disposed of or eliminated.

Today, many progressive doctors prescribe distilled water to their patients. All kidney machines operate on distilled water. Try distilled water and you will quickly notice how much better you feel!
