The Healing Properties of Ancient Castor Oil

Castor oil is a triglyceride, comprised of fatty acids, 90% of which is ricinoleic acid. It is antiparasitic, antibacterial, antiviral, anti inflammatory, and is also an immune and lymph system booster. It has been used in ancient societies like Greece, India and Egypt for thousands of years and has passed the test of time.

Castor oil, taken orally, topically or in enema form has shown positive results in suppressing tumor growth. As castor oil originated in India, the most recent 2011 study heralds from this subcontinent. They performed a study which showed the castor oil leaf had better bacteriocidal action against gram positive and negative bacteria than gentamicin. Studies have shown efficacious and impressive effects against arthritic pain, constipation, skin conditions, and inflammation. Castor oil has also been shown to be effective at stimulating the lymphatic system after routine blood measurements of T lymphocyte cells. Lymphocytes are disease fighter cells that live in our lymph system (thymus, spleen, appendix, lymph nodes) and are important part of the immune system. The lymph filters and empties toxins into the blood for disposal. As you can imagine, if the lymph system is sluggish, toxins easily build up in the body. Topical castor oil packs, in particular, have been shown to increase immunity. A technique called lymphasizing is also useful. It uses long, quick, light massage strokes to stimulate lymph flow using castor oil as a massage oil. Stimulating the lymphocytes in the lymph means there are more fighter cells to remove toxins and the lymph system can then flow more freely. Castor oil packs improve uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. Other conditions which seem to respond well to castor oil pack treatment include headaches, liver congestion, constipation, intestinal upset or other disorders, gallbladder stones, urinary frequency, keratosis, dermatosis, wound healing, acne, ringworm, other skin infections, sebaceous cysts, itching, hair loss, and inflamed joints.

How do you make a castor oil pack? You will need high quality organic cold-pressed castor oil (home health is a great brand). You don’t want your castor seeds sprayed with pesticides! You will need a hot water/heating pad, plastic wrap or garbage bag, pieces of cotton or wool flannel large enough to cover affected area, and a towel to make a castor oil pack.

Here are instructions for making a castor oil pack (courtesy of Daniel H. Chong, ND):

Fold flannel three layers thick so it is still large enough to fit over your entire upper abdomen and liver, or stack the three squares.
Soak flannel with the oil so that it is completely saturated. The oil should be at room temperature.
•Lie on your back with your feet elevated (using a pillow under your knees and feet works well), placing flannel pack directly onto your abdomen; cover oiled flannel with the sheet of plastic, and place the hot water bottle on top of the plastic.
•Cover everything with the old towel to insulate the heat. Take caution not to get the oil on whatever you are laying on, as it can stain. If necessary, cover that surface with something to protect it.
•Leave pack on for 45 to 60 minutes.
When finished, remove the oil from your skin by washing with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda to one quart water, or just soap and water. (Be sure to wash the towel by itself, as the castor oil can make other clothes stink if washed together.)
•You can reuse the pack several times, each time adding more oil as needed to keep the pack saturated. Store the pack in a large zip-lock bag or other plastic container in a convenient location, such as next to your bed. Replace the pack after it begins to change color.
•For maximum effectiveness, apply at least four consecutive days per week for one month. Patients who use the pack daily report the most benefits.
Castor oil enemas and shots are also very useful but can induce cramping, nausea or diarrhea especially if one is caring a high toxic load or is full of parasites. Proceed with caution as this is considered a purification method. It can produce inflammatory results that are the body’s natural immune system and biliary tract revving up in order to expel all the toxic load. it is how your body is SUPPOSED to perform. Just be prepared.

Castor oil is a remarkable ancient healing gift.
